Warrior Extraordinary Maj ‘Bob’ Khathing, MC:Saviour of Tawang from Chinese
This book recounts the remarkable life of Major Bob Khathing, a Tangkhul Naga from Manipur and one of the important builders of modern India. Rising from a remote and underdeveloped region at the time of independence, his achievements were extraordinary.
Khathing was a pioneer among the Nagas, the first to matriculate, the first Captain and Major, and the first to receive the Military Cross for his brave and innovative operations behind Japanese lines in Burma during World War II. Known for his courage, leadership, and spirit of adventure, he became the government's trusted choice for difficult missions.
His most challenging assignment was the expedition to NEFA (now Arunachal Pradesh) soon after independence. Succeeding in a region few had entered, he demonstrated exceptional toughness, tact, and negotiating skill.
Reluctantly entering politics, Khathing served as a minister with distinction. He later joined the civil services, rising to become Chief Secretary of Nagaland. His final service to the nation was as India's Ambassador to Myanmar, where he strengthened bilateral relations.
This book highlights the inspiring journey of a man from a neglected region who became one of Northeast India's greatest nationalists.
