War is a True Chameleon

In Oct 2015, on board INS Vikramditya in Kochi, PM Narendra Modi addressing his first Combined Commanders Conference, envisioned the future, where threats may be known, but the enemy may be invisible, security challenges will be less predictable, situations will evolve and change swiftly and technological changes will make responses more difficult to keep pace with. 

In contemplating Future Force and doctrines, it is is really imperative to strategise with the ends, ways and means equation! The Services perceive their individual modernisation largely on platform-basis, (say latest tanks and long-range artillery guns, large aircraft carriers and SSBNs and the next generation aircraft at a scale), and amalgamate these as the imperative. There are serious national competing requirements. It is of paramount importance for the future, to strategise, with a broad-based agenda, understand and decide on competing requirements, question assumptions, weed out those wedded to bygone ideas, and redirect institutional energy with foresight. 

The change happening in geostrategic environment and warfighting is so dramatic that it is imperative in India to contemplate the issues and seek direction towards strategizing.
