As a writer, I look for truth before drama, and responsibility before rhetoric. Brigadier GS Grewal delivers both with quiet confidence, offering a narrative that is as disciplined as the operation it describes. Operation Kaveri is a compelling reminder that the most important stories are often told without spectacle.
— Dr Jagmohan Bhanver,
Bestselling author and CEO Coach
Operation Kaveri will remain one of the most defining experiences of my diplomatic career. It was a moment when resolve and compassion came together in extraordinary ways. As Deputy Chief of Mission in Riyadh, coordinating activities from the main control room, I had the privilege of witnessing our nation's immense capacity to care for its people, even amid chaos far from home.
The success of this complex operation rested not only on India's swift coordination between our armed forces and diplomatic channels but also on the wholehearted cooperation extended by the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Their unstinting support, understanding, and shared sense of humanity made it possible for thousands to be brought safely home. It was a partnership forged in urgency and underscored by mutual respect.
This book captures not only the chronology of a complex mission but also the human stories behind it—the courage of evacuees, the dedication of officers, and the calm leadership that guided every decision. Brigadier Grewal's meticulous account reflects the discipline and ethos that define India's approach to crisis response.
Operation Kaveri reinforced our belief that India's global presence rests on more than diplomacy—it is anchored in empathy and action. Future generations of diplomats, soldiers, and citizens alike will find inspiration in these pages, drawn from one of India's most successful humanitarian missions abroad.
— Shri N Ram Prasad,
High Commissioner of India to the Kingdom of Eswatini
Operation Kaveri was an audacious rescue operation which succeeded in evacuating thousands of stranded Indians from Sudan. This country was not in the area of responsibility of the Defence Attaché in Riyadh; however, it was executed flawlessly. Having been the Defence Attache, in Riyadh, myself in the late 1990's I am aware of the labyrinth of MENA region geopolitics —the fragile alliances, proxy conflicts, and human suffering, amid conflict. This first-person account gives a valuable insight into the high-stake decisions, logistical nightmares, and raw courage that defined the operation - a tribute to our Nations unyielding resolve. The book is a must-read for anyone to understand geopolitics and what 'Country- Duty- Honour’ implies.
— Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah (Retd),
Former Deputy Chief of Army Staff and Ex VC of AMU
