This is the biography of Hira Singh of the 19th Lancers. It is a work of dramatised historical fiction, an account of Hira Singh's odyssey from the time he went with his unit to war in France in World War I till he finally retired and came back to his village Rey on the banks of the Beas River. Author: Lieutenant General Ghanshyam Singh Katoch, PVSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd) is an infantry officer. He retired after nearly 40 years of service in the army in 2016. He is a graduate from JNU New Delhi and Post Graduate from Madras University and the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California, USA. Post retirement he has been Director of the Centre for Anti-Terrorism Studies at the National Security Guard, Manesar, Head Editor at the United Service Institution of India and Managing Editor at the Centre of Land Warfare Studies, New Delhi.
