From Here and There: Memoirs of a Soldier

Colonel Ranbir Singh, VrC, is a third-generation soldier who served in the Indian Army for nearly three decades, in peace and in war. Commissioned in 1963, he participated in 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars and later commanded 4 RAJPUT, one of the Army’s most decorated infantry battalions. He was awarded the Vir Chakra for gallantry in battle.

From Here and There is not a conventional war memoir. It is a mosaic of lived moments—some serious, some humorous, some unsettling—drawn from years spent in uniform and life beyond it. The episodes capture the Army not merely as an institution of discipline and combat, but as a community of individuals shaped by duty, chance, belief, hierarchy, and the ever-present X-factor of luck.
